Masculine Valentine's Day Inspiration

Valentine's Day is next week and I wanted to share a masculine Valentine's Day project with you all! Several years ago I created some Gelli printed papers using a heart stencil that I LOVED! The blueish teal print was my favorite of the bunch. The thought of cutting it up and actually using it was too much for me! If you're a paper lover you understand the agony of having only one sheet left of your favorite pattered paper. Gelli printed papers make this dilemma especially challenging because each print is unique. I've never been able to recreate a Gelli print with any precision, so I did the next best thing... I scanned the print!

 

I played around with it in Photoshop, (using my preschool level knowledge of PS LOL) altering the color and scale of the print, so fun! I love the original, but this print in green is really nice too!  I kept the scale the same, and printed the pattern in both blue and green, and created pillow boxes filled with candy for my two guys.  I used curling ribbon to wrap the box, and then added little tags, and die cut stars with mini brads.

 

This simple packaging says "Happy Valentine's Day, I got you some chocolate."  That really should be a sentiment for a card LOL, I'm going to have to go whip up a few! I know that It's sometimes challenging to create handmade masculine cards for the guys in our lives, I always try to share ideas to make this task easier. I hope this non-traditional color palette inspires you to create some non-lovey-dovey Valentine's Day cards for someone in your life!

February 2024 CFK: I love you & Happy Birthday

 

I'm back today with a few more cards that I created using my February Counterfeit Kit. This card features ink blended die cut hearts and gold heat embossing.

 

Basic Grey made the best patterned paper for quick and easy cards like this one. I stamped the sentiment on vellum and then heat embossed it with gold embossing powder. I tucked the little banner with the eyelet behind the sentiment and popped them up using foam tape. Easy peasy!

 

This last card came together pretty quickly as well. The hedgehog image is from a stamp set called Hedgehog Blocks by Red Rubber Designs. I did some simple coloring using Copic markers, added a little flower, adhered a little enamel dot to the center of it, and then used a die to cut a panel for the images. I then used a woodgrain embossing folder to emboss the card front, and blended some ink along it to highlight the texture. I then adhered the image panel to the card base using foam tape.

February 2024 CFK: 143 & Mixed Tapes

I used my February Counterfeit Kit to create some cards this month. I wanted to do some actual scrapbooking but I got a late start and the month just slipped away from me. I needed some cards asap so it all works out! Some of them have a Valentine's Day feel but any and every day is a great day to tell someone you love them!

 

 

If you were a teenager in the 90's you will know that 1 4 3 = I love you! I asked my husband if he knew what it meant and he did not! I had to tease him and told him it was clear that he never had a girl page him back in the day! LOL I'll give him a pass though because he's 10yrs older so he was using his pager for business communications... which makes me wonder why my teen aged self had one in the first place. Anyway I feel old now LOL.

 

I used the Cassette Tape Die-namics & Mixed Tape Messages stamp set by My Favorite Things Stamps to create this card. I also used some old Tim Holtz Idea-ology stickers to create the labels for the cassettes. They were just the right size! The stamps & dies were released last January. I'm so surprised to see that Mixed Tape Messages is already being retired, it's such a fun set! I'm going to assume it wasn't a big enough seller, which again is so surprising to me! It's so nostalgic and perfect for many occasions, and is so perfect for creating masculine cards for the older fellas. I had to go and make this card for my son LOL. I found some DYMO tape in my stash that matched my patterned paper perfectly so I ran it through my embossing label maker to create the "Hey..." for the front of the card. My Silhouette software was opened so I used it to create a perfectly centered sentiment for the inside of the card.

 

 

The font I used is called Impact Label Reversed, which can be found at Dafont. If you don't have an embossing label maker you can use a font called Impact Label, also available at Dafont.com The reverse is a nice masculine font, it's kinda clean with a little bit of grunge. I stamped a teeny tiny heart above the sentiment, and signed the card simply "Love, Mom." A perfectly sweet mush-less Valentine's Day card.

 

My son gave me the tiniest smirky/smile so I think he liked it :) LOL

 

CFK Project: Treat Bag & Card Set

Hi Everyone! My last Counterfeit Kit Challenge project share is all about friendship & Valentine's Day! I used my silhouette to cut the pieces for my little bag using Papertrey Ink Sweet Blush cardstock.

It felt a little plain to me so I embossed the bag pieces before assembling it using my Spellbinders' Hand Drawn Scallops Embossing folder, and then adhered the bow to the front. I created the handles using some Papertrey Ink Sweet Blush ribbon, and filled the bag with some of my favorite treats... dark chocolate caramel, dark chocolate raspberry, and Jolly Rancher lolly pops! 

I had several "cookies" left over from my Christmas Thank You card making session, so I used a couple of them for the focal point for my card. That sentiment is from Altenew's Mini Delight Bold Bloom stamp set, which fit that little heart perfectly! Thanks for stopping by, hope that you all had a sweet Valentine's Day!

Swirly Heart Valentine's Day Card

Happy New Year! I realize it's basically mid February, January was a crazy month and I'd like a do-over.  Anyway, this is my first crafty post for 2020 and I'm excited to share a card idea with you that would be perfect for Valentine's Day. Actually the sweet sentiment is perfect anytime you want to let someone know that you love and appreciate them.

 

Although this card has kind of a "messy feel" to it, I still consider it to be somewhat of a simple card that has a gender neutral appeal. It came together pretty quickly and because I didn't use any embellishments it's a perfect card to send in the mail.

I started off by stamping the background panel, using Red Rubber Designs' Swirly Heart Background stamp with a light grey ink. Although this stamp creates a pretty image I thought it was too plain and needed something else; so I pulled out one of my go to stamp sets that I use when my project needs a little something extra, So Splattered.

 

I chose the image on the lower left hand side, and inked it using the same light grey ink. I inked the edges of the card panel using dark grey and little bit of black ink.

 

 

I felt like the background panel still needed something else so I added some splatters of Lindy's Stamp Gang spray ink in Blazing Black. I die cut a heart out of white cardstock, stamped it using the same stamp from the So Splattered set using the light grey ink, and then inked the edges using a dark grey and a little bit black ink.

 

The sentiment is from the Lovely Peony stamp set. I stamped it using a dark grey ink pad and heat embossed it using clear embossing powder. I adhered the heart to the card front using foam tape, and then adhered the panel to a black A2 card base. My card today was inspired by the following challenges...

Day 2/100 features another 6x6 collage.

Gelli printed phone book pages is my JAM! I usually recycle my phone books but I think I'm going to keep one or two on hand just for gelli printing. The pages are thin, but they can handle the weight of the paint and are perfect for using in collage pieces.  I'll try to list the products I've used going forward, but you'll have to forgive me for not sharing the paint colors that I used. It's all a blur, but for the most part I mostly used Liquitex Basics, Liquitex Heavy Body, Golden Heavy Body, Dylusions, and Folk Art acrylic paints for all of my prints. 

I used my new favorite stencil to gelli print the background layer on the phone book page for this piece and then adhered a piece of deli paper that I stamped using one of my favorite script stamps from Red Rubber Designs. I adhered the gelli printed hearts on top and layered the piece with a white mat for framing.

It's been too long...

I'm not sure even where to begin, except to say I'm still here. These last few years have been challenging with my health so I haven't created much. 

This past month I participated in a Gelli Printing challenge hosted by Birgit Koopsen over on Instagram. I'm finding that I like the quick & easy format of Instagram an awful lot, so you can always check to see what I'm up to over on My Instagram page. 

 

Birgit's month long challenge had some fun and creative daily prompts. I didn't get to participate each day but here are a few photos of some of the prints I created.

A Valentine for HIM

I love Valentine's Day cards, and each year I make it a point to create at least one card that isn't predominately red or pink. I really like color combinations of black, white, gray, with a touch of red or a shade of blue for masculine cards. This palette is perfect for the macho men in your lives. 

This card features some Pickled Potpourri Designs digital patterned paper and Red Rubber Designs stamps. It's a quick & easy card that I put together using some heart die cuts, cardstock, and a mini button.

Inspirational #106: Stamped Hearts

It's time for a new Red Rubber Inspirational, and this weeks challenge is to create a project using stamped hearts. Valentine's Day is about a week away so this challenge is very timely. I used a new image called Cupido from Pickled Potpourri Designs for my card. I added a little bit of color using Copic markers and painted a little shimmer mist over Cupids wings and his little heart. I'm sorry the coloring is off, the last few days have been so dreary here.

I used a digital patterned paper print from the Distressed Black and White collection, also from Pickled Potpourri Designs. I use standard print settings to print digital papers, but I use laser jet paper, it has a nice texture for patterned paper. I have an ink jet printer but the laser jet paper works just fine with it. I adhered the patterned paper  to a white A2 card base, cut a circle window from it, layered my image to the inside of the card, and then adhered a doily frame around the image.

Red Rubber Inspirational #104 & Retro Sketch #98

January is coming to an end, I realized I haven't done much with my Counterfeit kit, so I'm going to spend the next couple of days creating with it.

Today I have a card to share using this week's Red Rubber Inspirational and  Retro Sketch #98 as inspiration.

 

 

Inspirational #104 ~ Let Your Stamping Sparkle by using glitter, mists, bling or Stickles on your stamping.

 

I cut the larger heart from white cardstock using my Silhouette, stamped it using grey ink & a Gingham background stamp. I die cut the smaller heart from pattered paper, adhered both hearts using foam tape, added a few mini rhinestones, and stamped the sentiment using black ink to finish the card.

Monday Morning Crafting

My mojo is just flowing this morning. Thought I'd pop in to share a card with you that was inspired by this week's Paper Smooches Designer's Draft challenge. 

I used the I love you sentiment from Word Salad stamp set and the little stamped hearts are from Spring Fling stamp set.

Love Always & ♥ Miss you

Just wanted to pop in today to share a few cards I created this past week. 

I'm so happy with how this card turned out. I used some Quickutz alpha dies that I've had for awhile. I finally got some extended sized cutting plates for my Cuttlebug. What a difference it makes when you have to cut multiple letters, shapes, ect. Love it! 

This card is a mish-mash of several different stamps from different stamp sets. I wanted to create a card that was gender neutral & somewhat "Valentine-y" but would be great to give any time of the year. 

This card is inspired by this weeks CAS-ual Friday Challenge, which is to create a project using alphabet stamps, stickers, or die cuts. Those triangels on the white strip, and arrows stamped on the card base are from a new stamp set called Trifecta,  by a newer stamp company called Mama Elephant Stamps. Love these stamps :) I can't wait to see what else is store for this company.

Hi all! Just popping in today to share a more traditional Valentine's Day card. I used this weeks Clean & Simple Sketch for inspiration.

Over the last few years I've become more in tune with my "style" so I haven't purchased a ton of supplies. I tend to buy things that can serve more than one purpose, but sometimes that means purchasing 2, 3, & 4 sheets of a certain patterned paper! LOL This year I'm planning to use what's in my stash as much as possible so that I can purchase other things and not feel guilty about accumulating more "stuff."

I've had these little heart brads in my stash for probably about 8 or 9 years! LOL Yes it's literally been that long. For some reason that EBay auction for 50+ heart brads seemed like a good idea to me at the time!

 
But it also goes to show, that you never know when you'll find the perfect project for a particular item you've been hoarding in your stash... so don't throw away ANYTHING! LOL Just kidding :)

A Messy Valentine

Valentine's Day isn't a big to do at my house, but I always look forward to DS's class parties. But he's in middle school this year and they don't have holiday parties. But I wanted to create a few Valentine's Day cards this year anyway.

You won't find any pinks, red, or purples here! Just some cardstock, book paper, stamped images, inks, paint, distressed edges, messy stitching, and a mini heart die cut with a mini button & scrappers floss.

I've been so facinated by mixed media art lately. I tried to incoporate some of the layering techniques commonly used in mixed media and art journaling, with paper, paint, and inks.

New Year, New Craft Medium

One of the things I've been wanting to do for a long time is to explore other art mediums. I don't really consider myself to be an artist, but I'd like to be one! LOL

Anyway I've been watching a lot of art tutorials on YouTube lately and came across videos featuring paper clay projects. I figured that was right up my alley, so I picked up a bag/pack from Michaels around Christmas time and decided to play with it.

When I purchased the clay I initially thought I would use it to create ornaments for my Christmas tree, but time just slipped away and I never got around to making them. I started thinking about what else I could create relatively quickly just to see if this form of art was for me.

Then I remembered these little dishes that I bookmarked to my favorites. These are actually made from ceramic, but I thought maybe they'd work with the paper clay since it hardens as it dries.

So this is what I came up with...

I don't know all the specifics regarding the differences between different types of clay, but from what I can tell, paper clay is similar to polymer clay except that it doesn't require kiln firing or baking. You can just air dry your projects made with paper clay.

After rolling out the clay, I used a background stamp from Purple Onion Designs to add some texture to it. Then I used a heart shaped cookie cutter to cut out my shape. I set it aside for about an hour and then began to mold the edges upward to create a little bit of a "lip" to give the clay a dish shape. After another hour or so I molded it some more, and repeated that a few times.

Then I set it aside for about 24 hours. I used white paperclay, but you can purchase it in a number of different colors. After the dish was hard, I painted it with red acrylic paint. I gave each side about 2 coats of paint, and then let it dry for another 24 hours. Then I applied a glossy varnish to give it some shine.

Not bad for my first paperclay project huh?

Speaking of love... I love that patterned paper! It's from Simple Stories Destinations collection. I love how versatile it is. I really didn't intend to use it this way but I love how nicely it works with the Valentine's theme. I hope that you get a chance to squeeze somebody you love today :)

I suppose it doesn't help that it's been overcast and cloudy these last few days. I had to doctor up the lighting for this card a LOT.

This is one of  the other cards I created for PTI's digi image challenge the other day. I added some glossy accents to the bee after coloring it with Copic markers.

PTI 5th Anniversary Challenge Day 2

Did you see the sneak peeks on Nichole's blog today? That coffee cup with hearts  is too cute, I can't wait to see the rest of the images/sentiments in that set! 

Today's Anniversary challenge involves using digi images also available on Nichole's blog. Here's one of the images I used. 

I paired this image block with a kraft cardstock base and a piece of spring moss cardstock stamped with PTI's Houndstooth background stamp using spring moss ink. Then I added a little rhinestone to the center. 

I created another card, but I can't seem to get a good photo of it, I may try again later today. If not I'll be back tomorrow. Thanks for looking :)

A Valentine for Him

 

Hi, hope you all had a great weekend! Today is my "Monday," DS had a teachers workday yesterday. I didn't craft this weekend but I did clear off the table today to make the a few Valentine's so I can get them in the mail early... meaning on time before Valentine's Day! LOL

 

This one has a more masculine feel, I really like how the grey patterned hears turned out. I stamped the images and layered them behind the white panel that I adhered using pop dots to give it some dimension. Easy peasy :)

Happy 2012!

Happy New Year! I'm back :) Yep, and I'm feeling totally inspired to create! I did not set any "New Years resolutions for 2012" but there are so many things I'd like to do in 2012. On the creative front, I want to scrap more, sew more, and play with paint! Painting is definitely something new for me and out of my comfort zone but mixed media & canvas art looks like so much fun! You'll definitely be seeing some of that on my blog this year.

I started cleaning my scrap room and got distracted LOL I decided to use up some paper scraps to create a few Valentine's Day cards. This is one of them. Not only did I use some paper scraps, but I also dug out my old DYMO label maker to create the sentiment, and used a chipboard heart that I've had in my stash for a LONG time. I created a little window after adhering the patterned paper strips across the card base and then added some inking around the edges.

Guess What?

I'm dusting off my alphabet stamps today. I needed a sentiment but didn't have a stamp for it, so I pulled out some alphabet stamps to create one. Last week 365 Cards hosted a challenge asking us to create a card that didn't have a specific sentiment, one that you could leave blank on the inside ready for whatever big news lies ahead! 

How's that for a sentiment? LOL You really could use this card for just about any occasion :)

This is another card I created for different challenge. This challenge called for a card that has a general sentiment that would be appropriate for anyone. 

I actually stamped the heart panel back around Valentine's Day but never used it. I also a  piece of patterned paper from my giant stack of paper scraps. It's a tiny bit smaller now! LOL

Happy Heart Day!

 Hope you've been showered with love today! Just wanted to share a couple of CAS cards I made for T's teachers.

My friend Laurie always amazes me with her creations, especially those involving embossing & embossing folders. These cards were totally inspired by her :)

 
I used SU's Square Lattice embossing folder to create the background. LOVE this embossing folder!! I create a red card for one of T's teachers and used the same design in pink for one of his other teachers.

 
I used PTI Fillable Frames #11 & Polka Dot Basics II, Cuttlebug die cut hearts, & rhinestones to create the tag. I forgot to photograph the inside but I stamped "happy heart day" from a TAC set for the sentiment.

SOC Weekend Challenge

Mornin' all!

This past weekend the ladies of SOC were challenged to create a Valentine's Day card using non-traditional colors. This was a fun challenge! I even used my Karen Foster Snap Stamps to stamp "amazing." Remember how popular they were years ago? I still love them, it's so easy to customize your own sentiment and line each letter up perfectly! This color scheme works well for a masculine card, I've been making a lot of them this year.

Pink & Gray Hearts

Hi all! Hope you had a great weekend! We're having a snow/ice day today so T & I have been hanging out, sledding and shoveling ice. We're taking a break while I let the motrin kick in! LOL

I didn't spend much time in my craft room over the weekend but I do have a card to share that I made Friday. I missplaced my memory card so I couldn't share it sooner. I found it yesterday morning! Yay! Some how it ended up nestled in my Scrapbooks Ect. mag! LOL I'm not sure how that happened but I'm glad I found it. 

I really loved the gray hearts on the card I shared last week so I decided to use it again this time pairing it with a trio of patterned hearts that I stamped repeatedly over white cardstock. I used SU's Cameo Coral for the card base and on the heart on the oval for the focal image. I LOVE the gray. I got the heart stamp from Michaels for $1 last year sometime. It's a rubber stamp which I love. I have given up on buying the $1 clear stamps from Studio G, I alway end up with defected acrylic and I can't ever seem to get a crisp image so I always keep my eyes peeled for the rubber ones :) Anyhoo, thanks for looking!  

Gray Hearts

I like color. I'm not ashamed to say it. I couldn't deny it even if I tried. You wanna know something else.... I really like gray!

I just discovered it today! Gray with a little pop of color... WOW! This card was inspired by this print from the State of the Heart collection by My Mind's eye. I wanted to create a masculine Valentine's Day card instead of my usual red & pink girly ones. This is almost what I envisioned but I'm still working on it :) I think I should have left off the rhinestones... or "Beddazzle Bling" as my DH likes to refer to it.

One of my craft related goals this year is to participate in more challenges and to try some new techniques more often. CPS always has great sketches to play with, I created this card for this weeks Sketch Challenge.

This week I had a chance to check out the new Hobby Lobby they opened closest to me. It's about a 35-45 minute drive from me depending on traffic... which is a GOOD thing. The store is HUGE & wonderful :) Lot's of crafty goodness & even some home decor stuffs. I could easily get in trouble there! LOL Anyway I only bought one thing... this sentiment stamp by Stampabilities which was on clearance for $1.50!

 

Last year I purchased Memory-Work's Life Documented collection with great intentions to use it for my 2010 family scrapbook but I just didn't take enough photos :( I took a lot of photos in November, December, & August but very few in between those months. This year I'm going to do better! Anyway I  did use some of the kit on a few layouts  but I still have most of the kit so I decided to use some of the paper to create this card.  I added stickles & Glossy Accents to a Cuttlebug heart die cut, but then I decided it didn't have enough glitter so I added some additional glitter :) Then I inked all of edges and added some mini pop dots to give it some dimension.

Happy New Year!

Did you do anything exciting last night? I was asleep before midnight! LOL DH & DS stayed up watching old Twilight Zone episodes after the ball dropped. I woke up yesterday feeling yucky and I'm pretty much feeling the same today.  The boys were getting restless so they went to check out the New Years day sales. 

I've been in bed most of the day watching Oprah's new OWN network. I love Oprah :) I was sad to hear that this is the last season of the Oprah Show, but I'm excited about the OWN network. It kinda reminds me of the Lifetime Network, which is good... that's my favorite Sunday afternoon channel! 

 

I finally got tired of laying around and whipped up this lovey card. The patterned papers are from Echo Park's Life is Good & Everybody Loves Christmas Collections. I'm really LOVING this paper! Not only is it double sided but the Christmas collection has great colors and patterns that can also be used for other occasions... like for Valentine's Day cards :) Some of the prints have a slightly distressed look to them which I love!

Just wanted to share a card I created for this past weeks color challenge over at Paper Wings. The color combo: Red, Grey, Black, & White. I chose the heart from TAC's Celebrate the seasons stamp set & colored it with copic markers. Fast & easy peasy! :)
