I had to go and make this card for my son LOL. I found some DYMO tape in my stash that matched my patterned paper perfectly so I ran it through my embossing label maker to create the "Hey..." for the front of the card. My Silhouette software was opened so I used it to create a perfectly centered sentiment for the inside of the card.

 

 

The font I used is called Impact Label Reversed, which can be found at Dafont. If you don't have an embossing label maker you can use a font called Impact Label, also available at Dafont.com The reverse is a nice masculine font, it's kinda clean with a little bit of grunge. I stamped a teeny tiny heart above the sentiment, and signed the card simply "Love, Mom." A perfectly sweet mush-less Valentine's Day card.

 

My son gave me the tiniest smirky/smile so I think he liked it :) LOL

 

Starry Kitty and Two Boos

 

Hi Everyone! I have a couple of not so spooky Halloween cards to share with you today featuring Distress ink blended backgrounds and images from Pickled Potpourri Designs' Scaredy Cat digital image stamp set. This stamp set is HUGE and provides a lot of options for your Halloween crafts.

 

 

My first card features the cute smiling ghost image. I printed a mirrored image of the smaller ghost, fussy cut him out, and then adhered it to the card using foam tape. I adhered the larger ghost directly to the card front.

 

 

I stamped one of sentiments from the Trick Or Treat stamp set by Red Rubber Designs, using Versamark ink and then heat embossed it using white embossing powder. For the background inks I used Speckled Egg, Peacock Feathers, Chipped Sapphire, & Black Soot Distress Inks. I also used some white gouache to create some starry splatters on the background. 

 

 

I used the "starry kitty" image for my second card. I stamped the sentiment on white cardstock and inked along the edges using Versafine Onyx Black ink. The background was inked using Monarch Orange Archival Ink, Carved Pumpkin, Ground Espresso, and Black Soot Distress inks. I also used some white gouache to create some starry splatters on the background.

Birthday Selfie

Awhile back I heard about a new planner and stationary collection Michaels' was carrying featuring women of color from a company called Capitol Chic Designs by Lameka Alston. Although I'm more of a list maker rather than a "planner chick," I had to go check it out and I'm so glad I did! There were so many cute items! I should have taken some photos of the display, but if you search #capitolchicdesigns on Instagram you'll be able to see all kinds of yummy goodness! Lameka also offers Custom Dolls and other items on her personal website you can check out here. 

 

I picked up a few items including what I thought was a pack of chipboard "dolls," but they are actually chipboard stickers! They are really nice! They are thicker than a traditional sticker, but I think they are thinner than the chipboard embellishments you would typically find in a scrapbooking collections. They are perfect for cards, especially ones that you would want to send in the mail. I think I was just so excited to see black women on stickers that I didn't even read the packaging. Every once in awhile I come across stickers that feature black children but I can't recall ever seeing black women or men featured, especially in a "big box" store.

 

 

What I love about these stickers besides the fact that they feature women of color, people from "other" groups including a gay couple, and a "disabled" woman are included. Representation matters and Lameka did not miss the mark here! I look forward to seeing what else she has in the making for us paper crafting enthusiasts. 

 

I used one of the chipboard stickers to create this cute card, it looks like she's taking a birthday selfie! I kept this card pretty simple so that the sticker could be the highlight of the card. I adhered it directly to the tag and popped it up using foam tape. I also happened to have Altenew's Birthday Love stamp & die set on my desk so I put it to use. This little stamp set is small but mighty and is a great one to have in your stash if you need to whip up a quick card. I stamped the balloon using SU So Saffon Ink, adhered some metallic thread to the back, and popped it up using foam tape.

 

The sentiment is from the It's Your Day stamp set by Red Rubber Designs and was stamped using SU Real Red ink. I  inked up Concord & 9th's Plaid background stamp using SU So Saffon ink and stamped it on a slightly smaller card mat that I adhered directly to the white A2 card base.

I've been card making and paper crafting for a very long and have tried a lot of different techniques and supplies, but for some reason I have never created a shaker card. Craziness right?! Well today I decided to check this technique off my to do list! I have a super cute not-so-scary Halloween shaker card to share with you!

 

To create my card I used my Cameo to cut a card front measuring 4 in. x 5.25 in. with a coffin shaped window using the Spider Coffin Box SVG cut file from the Silhouette store. To create the window, I traced the edge of the spider web layer to create a solid panel, and then center aligned it within the card front panel. I then stamped the card front using Versamark ink & the Background Stripes stamp by Red Rubber Designs. I heat embossed it using some black sparkly embossing powder, and then inked the edges of the panel using Versafine Onyx Black ink.

 

 

Isn't this Lil' Dracula just too cute? He's one of the images included in the Delightfully Spooky Dracula stamp set. I colored him using Copic markers and Faber Castel Polychromos colored pencils, fussy cut him out. Instead of using foam tape, I used chipboard to pop him up. I can't recall where I saw this being done but I really like the results! It's super sturdy and possibly more economical than using foam tape because I always seem to have an abundance of chipboard lying around.

 

 

I decided to arrange my little Dracula so that he looks like he's popping up out of the coffin so I tucked his feet behind the card front but on top of the acetate window. I used seed beads, tubular confetti, and glitter for my shaker card filling and then adhered the panel to a white A2 card base. I think I should have added more shaker filler, but I like the fact that the contents shake freely and provides a lot of movement. I can't wait to create more shaker cards! Red Rubber Inspirational #124

 

This weeks theme is all about Music! I don't own any music themed stamps so I used some music themed die cuts for my cards.

 

I stamped the background using a Gingham Background Stamp using grey ink, I added a few ink splatters using a black spray mist, and added a few dots randomly using a gold ink pen.

 

I stamped the sentiment using a mini alphabet stamp set called Mini-Bet and adhered two mini star wood veneer pieces that I painted with the gold ink pen. 

 

 

My next card features a diecut that I LOVE. My son gave it two thumbs up too! This card would be a perfect birthday card for a teenage boy or... or any young at heart music lover in your life! 

 

 

I used another alphabet stamp set, Distressed Typewriter Bet to create the sentiment for this card. I stamped it on vellum and used two mini pewter brads to attach it to the card front. 

 

I also added splatters using spay mist, and inked the edges of the card using grey & black inks. The patterned paper is a digital print from Pickled Potpourri Designs' Distressed Black and White paper collection. I printed the paper on laser jet paper using my ink jet printer and I love the texture! The paper feels like a true patterned paper compared to the standard ink jet paper that I normally would use to print patterned paper.
