February 2024 CFK: I love you & Happy Birthday

 

I'm back today with a few more cards that I created using my February Counterfeit Kit. This card features ink blended die cut hearts and gold heat embossing.

 

Basic Grey made the best patterned paper for quick and easy cards like this one. I stamped the sentiment on vellum and then heat embossed it with gold embossing powder. I tucked the little banner with the eyelet behind the sentiment and popped them up using foam tape. Easy peasy!

 

This last card came together pretty quickly as well. The hedgehog image is from a stamp set called Hedgehog Blocks by Red Rubber Designs. I did some simple coloring using Copic markers, added a little flower, adhered a little enamel dot to the center of it, and then used a die to cut a panel for the images. I then used a woodgrain embossing folder to emboss the card front, and blended some ink along it to highlight the texture. I then adhered the image panel to the card base using foam tape.

February 2024 CFK: 143 & Mixed Tapes

I used my February Counterfeit Kit to create some cards this month. I wanted to do some actual scrapbooking but I got a late start and the month just slipped away from me. I needed some cards asap so it all works out! Some of them have a Valentine's Day feel but any and every day is a great day to tell someone you love them!

 

 

If you were a teenager in the 90's you will know that 1 4 3 = I love you! I asked my husband if he knew what it meant and he did not! I had to tease him and told him it was clear that he never had a girl page him back in the day! LOL I'll give him a pass though because he's 10yrs older so he was using his pager for business communications... which makes me wonder why my teen aged self had one in the first place. Anyway I feel old now LOL.

 

I used the Cassette Tape Die-namics & Mixed Tape Messages stamp set by My Favorite Things Stamps to create this card. I also used some old Tim Holtz Idea-ology stickers to create the labels for the cassettes. They were just the right size! The stamps & dies were released last January. I'm so surprised to see that Mixed Tape Messages is already being retired, it's such a fun set! I'm going to assume it wasn't a big enough seller, which again is so surprising to me! It's so nostalgic and perfect for many occasions, and is so perfect for creating masculine cards for the older fellas. November Rain Limitless Kit

 

I'm back today to share my Counterfeit Kit for February! If you've been following my blog for awhile you know that I LOVE Fall! Normally I would have been thrilled with a Fall themed kit, but it's too early for me haha. I love the navy and gold in this kit and had a plaid sheet of patterned paper that is a great dupe for the one in the inspiration kit so I built my kit around it.

 

I dug deep in my stash and found a sheet of Basic Grey patterned paper and a sticker sheet that went well with the color palette. I added some navy, white, and dark & light kraft cardstock and added a sheet of gold foiled cardstock & a sheet of vellum to create some embellishments for my kit.

 

 

I added some puffy alphabet stickers and my favorite small alphabet die set by Paper Rose. Although I didn't buy a ton of new supplies last year, in 2024 I'm really focusing on using the items in my stash so I included some colored eyelets I've had for a zillion years. LOL I still love them! I also included a woodgrain & a brick embossing folder, some gold brads, some white & cream scrappers floss, kraft twine, Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals & gold embossing powder in my kit.

 

 

 

I also included one stamp set, Hedgehog Blocks by Red Rubber Designs but I may grab another set or two, as well as some dies, some coloring mediums such as inks, markers, and paint. Stay tuned for my first project!

CFK Project: Hot Cocoa

I have one last project to share that I created using my Jan. CFK using some of the coco & marshmallow mug ephemera pieces from the Mrs. Claus' Bakery Kit that I included. They are really stunning in person, if you click on the photos you can get a better view. All of the distressing was added by the artist, Kristin Cronin-Barrow. I applied a little Speckled Egg distress ink to mute the white edges around the mugs and over the sentiment label to tie them into the background panel, but all the little details were already in place.

 

They were created as a part of a digital scrapbooking kit, so some of it's "wow-ness" is lost when printed as a flat piece but I still like them. In hindsight, the next time I use elements like this I'll print them several times so that I can fussy cut the elements to layer with foam tape to give it some dimension.

 

I used a snowflake embossing folder to emboss the background panel. I added some splashes of white gouache, and applied some speckled egg distress ink around the panel and over the embossed snowflakes after it dried. The mugs were adhered using foam tape. I think I'm going to recreate this card so I can do a side by side comparison. Do you use digital kits to create handmade cards? I'd love to hear any tips you have on how to incorporate them in hybrid projects.

 

CFK Project: Envelope Art

 

I created this envelope to tuck into a package of happy mail for my crafty friend Chris. She's a CTMH consultant so I wanted to customize it using some CTMH stamps. I don't have very many images, but I do have several CTMH alphabet stamps so I used a few of them. Unfortunately for you they're all retired, but you may be able to find them second hand on Ebay or Etsy. The fonts I used, top to bottom are Paige's Hand, Keyboard Uppercase, and Typography.

 

I used some foam tape to pop up the "Happy Mail for Chris" panels, but if I were mailing it as is, I would have just adhered it flat, or tucked the envelope it into a clear envelope before mailing it.

 

I love that faux postage! That is from a Concord & 9th stamp set called Snail Mail, it's a cute one. I also added a few splashes of white gouache to the patterned paper. Thanks so much for stopping by!

CFK Project: Handmade Christmas Ornaments 6x8 Layout

My layout shares some of the handmade ornaments that I create this past Christmas. At the start of the pandemic I purchased a new printer, an older model Epson Eco Tank printer. It makes printing photos and digital papers at home so easy, and the ink lasts forever! The only cons I've found so far is that I can not print on vellum, or cardstock that is heavier than 80lb. I miss being able to have those capabilities, but it's a trade-off I'll live with because the ink for my super old Canon printer was so ridiculously expensive to print colored documents.

Anyway, my layout is very simple, I used foam tape to pop up some of the photos, added a few gems, pearls, some thickers & stickers, and a little tag for journaling. I really like this 6x8 sized DYI album. I still need to work out how to best photograph double page spreads in pre-assembled albums.

CFK Project: Treat Bag & Card Set

Hi Everyone! My last Counterfeit Kit Challenge project share is all about friendship & Valentine's Day! I used my silhouette to cut the pieces for my little bag using Papertrey Ink Sweet Blush cardstock.

It felt a little plain to me so I embossed the bag pieces before assembling it using my Spellbinders' Hand Drawn Scallops Embossing folder, and then adhered the bow to the front. I created the handles using some Papertrey Ink Sweet Blush ribbon, and filled the bag with some of my favorite treats... dark chocolate caramel, dark chocolate raspberry, and Jolly Rancher lolly pops! 

I had several "cookies" left over from my Christmas Thank You card making session, so I used a couple of them for the focal point for my card. That sentiment is from Altenew's Mini Delight Bold Bloom stamp set, which fit that little heart perfectly! Thanks for stopping by, hope that you all had a sweet Valentine's Day!

CFK Project: Happy Birthday Sweet Friend

January is usually my "birthday card" month so I'm surprised that this was the only one that I created. I got distracted by adorable snowmen & Valentine's Day makes. The flower on this card is actually a "flat" element, part of a digital scrapbooking kit. I cut two of them, reducing one of them so that I could pop it up using foam tape to layer it on top of the larger one. It's pretty, but I really want to recreate it using handmade flowers. The snowflake stamen is so pretty!

 

 

I added a red flatback pearl to tie in the red berries on the patterned paper and the red cardstock base. The sentiment is from a My Favorite Things stamp set called Sugar Coated Sentiments. The sentiments in this set are all perfect for this time of year! Thanks so much for stopping by!

CFK Project: Snow Glad We're Friends

 

Hi Everyone, I'm back today with a friendship themed snowman card. I colored this snowman using shades of pinks & reds using Copic Markers and Prismacolor Colored Pencils. I also used Nuvo Drops to highlight the circles on the frame. The pretty patterned paper from my kit has a winter theme, but I think the pops of red almost gives it a "Valentiney" feel. The sentiment strip needed a little something so I adhered a tiny heart clay shape next to it.

 

I also used a light pink Copic to highlight the sentiment, the subtle color makes such a difference! Although the lighting kind of washed it out in the close up photo, it's captured more accurately in the full sized image of the card. CFK Project: A Snowman Note Card

Hope you all had a great weekend! It was chilly but sunny here on Saturday which gave me a chance to photograph more of my "January Counterfeit Kit Challenge" makes. I'll be sharing those with you all this week. Today's card features an adorable snowman from a stamp set called Snowman Blocks from Red Rubber Designs. I colored his little scarf and buttons in shades of blue-ish greens using Copics & Polychromos colored pencils. I added some Nuvo drops to highlight the circles on the frame around the snowman, I love the dimension it adds!

I added some white splatters to the Kraft card base using white gouache, and then inked the edges using PTI Kraft Ink. I like to keep some cards on hand that don't have a sentiment for those occasions when I need a card last minute but don't have time to create one. I will usually just add a sentiment related to the occasion, or will leave it blank and will just write my message to the recipient on the inside of the card. CFK Project: Magic & Wonder Of Winter

 

Happy Friday everyone! I tend to get long winded and wordy when I type my blog posts, but I'm keeping it short and sweet today. This Basic Grey paper is the star of this card! You can still find it as a digital print here... Aspen Frost. I used some glittered cardstock to cut the snowflake from an SVG file. The sentiment  was stamped using Ground Espresso Archival Distress ink.

CFK project: Warm Hugs

Hi Everyone! I'm back today to share a winter themed card that I created using my Jan 2023 Counterfeit Kit Challenge Kit. This card features a winter cap that I love so much!!! I purchased some iridescent trim that was included in Stampin' Up's 2022 Holiday catalog but It ended up being too thick for the project that I originally wanted to use it for. It ended up being the perfect trim for this winter hat! I fussy cut several hats, using the first one as a template to cut the others to ensure that all of the pieces were relatively uniformed. I adhered all but one of the hats together to create one sturdy piece. I used the remaining hat to cut a separate rim for the hat. I used a knit patterned embossing folder to emboss the base piece of the hat.

 

 

I applied some double sided tape to the back of the cut piece and wrapped the iridescent trim around it, and then adhered it to the hat using my hot glue gun. I punched a 3/4 in. circle from cardstock, and adhered more of the trim using the double sided tape to create the pouf. I then used my hot glue gun to adhere it to the back of the cap. I LOVE it, now I have to dig through my stash to see if I have any other trims that would be great for winter hats.... oooh now I have to create mittens! LOL

Snow Much Fun! Jan CFK

January's Counterfeit kit Challenge is a fun one! It features the Hip Kit Club's December 2022 Kit.

This kit screams winter, snowflakes, & snowmen to me and I love the color palette. For my kit I snuck in a few papers that would work well for some Valentine's Day creations. The patterned papers and some of the ephemera in my kit are from a few digital collections, Basic Grey's Aspen Frost collection and the Santa Claus and Co: Mrs. Claus' Bakery collection by Kristin Cronin-Barrow.

 

I forgot to include some type of trim, so I'll probably add some ribbon, twine, and/or some thread. I'll also be using my Silhouette to cut some SVG cut files and will pull out some stamps and inks. Thanks for stopping by!

WCMD Card Kit inspiration

I'm back today to share a card that I created using the stencil and some other supplies in the kit. I wanted to offer a jar of Perfect Pearls with the kit but I wasn't able to find it sold individually so I substituted it with Lindy's Bayou Boogie Gold Magicals and it's THE PERFECT alternative! Although I think the Perfect Pearls might be slightly more vibrant. I mixed a small amount of water with the pigment to create a paste and then splattered it over the stenciled pattern and I'm in LOVE! That little touch of gold is perfect!

I blended a heavy application of Stampin' up' Cajun Craze over the stencil on a sheet of Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. I then removed the stencil and applied the same ink with a much lighter hand over the entire surface of the cardstock. I used a scalloped edge rectangle die to cut down the panel, and adhered several layers of cardstock to the back in place of foam tape to give it a little dimension. I often use cardstock instead of foam tape because foam tape is sometimes too thick for the look that I'm going for. I know that there are some thinner foam tapes on the market but using cardstock is often more convenient for me.

I used the sheer orange ribbon included in the kit to create a bow, and wrapped it around the panel. I adhered a panel of Cajun Craze cardstock that I embossed using SU's Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder to the card front. I then adhered the stenciled background panel at an angle on to the card front. The sentiment was stamped on vellum, heat embossed using gold embossing powder, and adhered to a white oval die cut. I framed the sentiment using Cajun Craze cardstock. I think this is my favorite burnt orange! I adhered the sentiment to the card front, threaded a button using Scrappers Floss and adhered it to the center of the bow.

July Counterfeit Kit Challenge

This month's Counterfeit Kit Challenge challenge features the May 2022 Kit from Citrus Twist Kits. It's a great kit but has a heavy travel theme which isn't really useful to me at the moment. I haven't really done any traveling since before Covid shocked the world. So I drew inspiration from the color palette and some of the icons and elements found in the patterned papers and embellishments.

 

I actually have some of the Pink Fresh Studios Life Right Now collection 6x6 papers, die cuts, and enamel dots so I started building my kit around my little stash. I added a few sheets of 12x12 Echo Park & Carta Bella patterned paper, a sheet of 12x12 patterned vellum, and a few sheets of 12x12 cardstock. I also added some doilies, enamel dots, some labels, buttons, paper flowers, and misc embellishments from my stash. I plan to create a few traveler or "junk" style journals this month, so I kept that in mind while building my kit.

 

I included extra sheets of 8 1/2 x11 cardstock, some ribbon and stretchy cord to make the journals. I might pull out my laminator and my sewing machine. Oh! and some eyelets! I really don't have any specific plans other than to make them! LOL

 

These are some of the alphabet stamps I'm planning to use. I'm also planning to use some additional stamps, dies, punches, ink pads, stencils, texture pastes, and paints or some other coloring medium not pictured.

 

 

October Counterfeit Kit

I'm so bummed that I didn't get a chance to create a single card for World Card Making Day. Did you get a chance to create? Participate in any fun challenges? I'll have to make up for it this week. 

So it's been a few months since I last created a Counterfeit Kit and I miss it. I find that I create several more projects each month compared to when I do not work with a kit. The Counterfeit Kit inspiration this month is from a Kit Club called Hey Little Magpie. They offered a limited edition kit shown ---> Here. 

I love the polka dots, florals, navy blue, white, pink, washi tape, label stickers, and transparency titles in this kit so I dug around my stash to look for those specific colors and patterns, and filled in the rest of my kit with complementary paper goodies. 

 

 I'll also be adding some twine which is currently MIA in my stash somewhere, some stamps, stamp inks, paints, and maybe some spray mists to my kit this month. Thanks for looking! 

10-Minute Craft Dash #25

Hi all!

I'm working with my Counterfeit Kit today. When I saw sneak peeks from WPlus 9 Designs' Fanciful Feathers release I knew I needed this stamp set. Feathers are pretty trendy right now, and up until I saw this stamp set I really didn't think much about them.

I didn't need any feather stamps or embellishments... but you know how it is with crafters! LOL After you see an amazing project you just HAVE to have the supplies or products the designer used so that you can create something too. So I was sold! I plan to create some patterned papers with these stamps to use in my scrapbooks, but today I created a stamped background for a card using Paulina's 10-Minute Craft Dash Challenge as my inspiration. 

This color combo is perfect! It just so happens that the contents of my Counterfeit Kit are comprised of this color palette, although I did sneak in a brown cardstock base & yellow ink.  I just squeaked by, finishing my card at 9 minutes and 57 seconds! 

I added three buttons threaded with scrappers floss, and popped up the sentiment strip using foam tape.
