CFK Project: Hot Cocoa

I have one last project to share that I created using my Jan. CFK using some of the coco & marshmallow mug ephemera pieces from the Mrs. Claus' Bakery Kit that I included. They are really stunning in person, if you click on the photos you can get a better view. All of the distressing was added by the artist, Kristin Cronin-Barrow. I applied a little Speckled Egg distress ink to mute the white edges around the mugs and over the sentiment label to tie them into the background panel, but all the little details were already in place.

 

They were created as a part of a digital scrapbooking kit, so some of it's "wow-ness" is lost when printed as a flat piece but I still like them. In hindsight, the next time I use elements like this I'll print them several times so that I can fussy cut the elements to layer with foam tape to give it some dimension.

 

I used a snowflake embossing folder to emboss the background panel. I added some splashes of white gouache, and applied some speckled egg distress ink around the panel and over the embossed snowflakes after it dried. The mugs were adhered using foam tape. I think I'm going to recreate this card so I can do a side by side comparison. Do you use digital kits to create handmade cards? I'd love to hear any tips you have on how to incorporate them in hybrid projects.

 

CFK Project: Snow Glad We're Friends

 

Hi Everyone, I'm back today with a friendship themed snowman card. I colored this snowman using shades of pinks & reds using Copic Markers and Prismacolor Colored Pencils. I also used Nuvo Drops to highlight the circles on the frame. The pretty patterned paper from my kit has a winter theme, but I think the pops of red almost gives it a "Valentiney" feel. The sentiment strip needed a little something so I adhered a tiny heart clay shape next to it.

 

I also used a light pink Copic to highlight the sentiment, the subtle color makes such a difference! Although the lighting kind of washed it out in the close up photo, it's captured more accurately in the full sized image of the card. CFK Project: A Snowman Note Card

Hope you all had a great weekend! It was chilly but sunny here on Saturday which gave me a chance to photograph more of my "January Counterfeit Kit Challenge" makes. I'll be sharing those with you all this week. Today's card features an adorable snowman from a stamp set called Snowman Blocks from Red Rubber Designs. I colored his little scarf and buttons in shades of blue-ish greens using Copics & Polychromos colored pencils. I added some Nuvo drops to highlight the circles on the frame around the snowman, I love the dimension it adds!

I added some white splatters to the Kraft card base using white gouache, and then inked the edges using PTI Kraft Ink. I like to keep some cards on hand that don't have a sentiment for those occasions when I need a card last minute but don't have time to create one. I will usually just add a sentiment related to the occasion, or will leave it blank and will just write my message to the recipient on the inside of the card. CFK Project: Magic & Wonder Of Winter

 

Happy Friday everyone! I tend to get long winded and wordy when I type my blog posts, but I'm keeping it short and sweet today. This Basic Grey paper is the star of this card! You can still find it as a digital print here... Aspen Frost. I used some glittered cardstock to cut the snowflake from an SVG file. The sentiment  was stamped using Ground Espresso Archival Distress ink.

CFK project: Warm Hugs

Hi Everyone! I'm back today to share a winter themed card that I created using my Jan 2023 Counterfeit Kit Challenge Kit. This card features a winter cap that I love so much!!! I purchased some iridescent trim that was included in Stampin' Up's 2022 Holiday catalog but It ended up being too thick for the project that I originally wanted to use it for. It ended up being the perfect trim for this winter hat! I fussy cut several hats, using the first one as a template to cut the others to ensure that all of the pieces were relatively uniformed. I adhered all but one of the hats together to create one sturdy piece. I used the remaining hat to cut a separate rim for the hat. I used a knit patterned embossing folder to emboss the base piece of the hat.

 

 

I applied some double sided tape to the back of the cut piece and wrapped the iridescent trim around it, and then adhered it to the hat using my hot glue gun. I punched a 3/4 in. circle from cardstock, and adhered more of the trim using the double sided tape to create the pouf. I then used my hot glue gun to adhere it to the back of the cap. I LOVE it, now I have to dig through my stash to see if I have any other trims that would be great for winter hats.... oooh now I have to create mittens! LOL

Mini Wreath Thank You Cards

Hi Everyone! I have a tradition of creating Christmas & winter themed thank you cards using the left over patterned papers and embellishments from my Christmas card making sessions. Unfortunately this year I didn't actually have a session, I created a couple of cards but forgot to photograph them before gifting them... I know! I may have to recreate them to share with you.

 

 

Since I didn't actually have any left overs I decided to just sit down and create a few thank you cards anyway. I used some stamps from Red Rubber Designs, one sheet of 12x12 patterned paper, several sheets of  kraft cardstock, some washi tape, twine, buttons, and Stickles to create them. They are super easy CAS cards that came together relatively quickly.

 

The wreath I used is from the Mini Wreaths stamp set from Red Rubber Designs. It's currently not listed in the store but keep an eye out for it. It might also become available at some point as a digital stamp so be sure to check out the Pickled Potpourri Designs store also. You could also "Supersize" this design and use the larger sized wreaths that are available! You find them here:

Red Rubber Inspirational #111

Hi Everyone! This week's Red Rubber Inspirational is in honor of this never ending winter that keeps dumping snow across the US... One Last Snowflake. We actually did get what I hope is our last snowfall for the year on Monday... 6 inches. Thankfully it was fluffy & not heavy. Anyway, I pulled out my snowflake stamps, embossing powder, & some Dylusions spray mists to create this card.

I actually love this challenge, because I got to use one of my most loved stamp sets, and it doesn't actually involve any real snow! I stamped the snowflakes using Versamark Ink & heat embossed them with white embossing powder. I used two different Dylusion spray mists to ink the stamped panel. The color didn't quite turn out the way that I expected, I like it but I need more colors! LOL

I stamped the sentiment on a white strip of cardstock, lightly inked the edges & popped it up using foam tape. I adhered the snowflake panel to a white A2 cardbase and added a snowflake diecut & a button to finish this card. Card Swaps

I know, I know, I know. I said I was finished with Christmas cards until July, but I just had to create one last set of cards for a card swap hosted by April over at Two Peas in a Bucket. I can't recall the last time I participated in a card swap but this was fun!

I used my favorite Christmas tree from Jingle Christmas Tree. I colored the tree with Copic & BIC markers, added some shimmer mist to the bulbs, and applied glossy accents on top. I also added some shimmer mist to the star topper.

I also created cards for a child's birthday. Initially I thought I would create something for 3-4 year olds but decided to create a card for older kids. I think this would be a great card for a tween or teen girl.

That adorable cupcake is from a Red Rubber Designs stamp set called Sweet Day Cupcake. I colored the image using Copic & BIC markers, added some Stickles to the frosting, and topped the cherry with a mini rhinestone.

Wait...

don't put your Christmas paper crafting supplies away yet! I'll be honest and tell you that mine are still scattered all over my work space! LOL

I know Valentine's Day is right around the corner, but now is the perfect time to create those Christmas thank you cards that you meant to send around the 1st of the year, or you could get a head start on your holiday cards for next year... or you can go the complete opposite way and use some of the images in your Christmas stamps sets to create something completely unrelated to Christmas.

Today I'm going to share a traditional Christmas themed card using Jingle Chrismas Tree.  Later this week I'll share a birthday themed project using this same set. 

I used a sheet of patterned paper from the Catelynne patterned paper collection. This collection is definitely not a Christmas themed paper collection, but I really love that green paper so I made it work.

 

I colored the image using Copic & BIC markers, and painted shimmer mist over the ornaments and star. After the shimmer mist dried I applied glossy accents to the ornaments.

Inspirational #102: Winter Stamps

Did you hear? Red Rubber Designs is hosting a new weekly challenge, Red Rubber Inspirationals... featuring stamping and paper crafting techniques. I'm looking forward to digging through my stamp stash and using some old favorites :)

This weeks challenge is to create something featuring stamps that have a winter theme... which is quite fitting because it's been so cold in most parts of the US including here in Maryland. It was -4 degrees when I dropped my son off at school on Tuesday.

Wednesday morning it was 12 degrees... and it almost didn't feel cold! I know it sounds crazy... because it is! LOL Maryland is NOT supposed to be this cold. Thankfully it's a Iittle warmer today!

Anyway, here's my card...

I used some distress ink to color the background of my snow globe. I flicked water on it to mimic snowflakes. I pulled out my neglected water blending pen and two Momento Inks to color the scarf and buttons of my little snowman. 

I added some glitter to the snow bank, adhered some snowflake punchies, a mini sequin, spritzed a little shimmer mist over the snow globe, and popped up the sentiment using foam tape.

Hello There

I resisted electronic die cutting machines for a long time, but after seeing so many cool things you can do with them I asked Santa for a Silhouette. I've been having fun figuring out which blade settings to use for different types of paper. I'm still learning, but I wanted to share a card using a diecut sentiment that I just love.

Sorry the lighting isn't the greatest. I used distress ink along the edges, added a few snowflakes punchies, a sequin & mini rhinestone. I also applied glimmer mist to the snowflake & sentiment but it's difficult to capture that in a still image.

I can't wait to see what else I can do with this little machine. Did Santa bring you anything crafty?

2013 Christmas cards

Good Morning!

Wow it's been just about a month since I last updated my blog. I've been swamped in holiday shenanigans. I'm just about finished with my Christmas cards, which are very late this year. I usually like to have them finished by Sept., but that just did not happen this year.

I normally choose one design to send to my family friends but this year I created two different designs.

 

This was the card I originally planned to create & send, but the thought of coloring 50+ snowmen became daunting because I kept thinking about the 50 million other things I needed to do, so I about halfway through I had to rethink my design.

So I ended up with this card. The leaves were cut from white cardstock & inked with distress inks. I love how this one turned out!

10-Minute Craft Dash #28

 

There's only a few hours left to submit your entry for the current 10-Minute Craft Dash Challenge.  I created my card several days ago but went over my time by more than 3 minutes. I planned to try again but the time just got away from me this week.

I wanted to share my card anyway, even though it was a 10 minute fail. I really love how it turned out. I was pretty ambitious when I started this card, I should have known that adding the acrylic paints would eat up my time. They actually dried really quickly, I think I just had so much going on with this card, that everything together was a little much for 10 minutes.

To create this card I stared with a standard white A2 card base. I cut a piece of Mixed Media paper slightly smaller at 5.25in. X 4in. to layer on top of the card base. A heavy weight cardstock would probably work just as well, but I knew that I would be using acrylic paint & spray mist ink and I didn't want my paper to warp too much. The mixed media paper is much more tolerant of layers of liquid mediums.

I applied a thin layer of turquoise acrylic paint, used my heat gun to dry it quickly, and then applied green acrylic paint using a sponge & circle stencil. I dried that and then added splatters of red spray mist ink. I set that aside and then stamped the label image using red ink, stamped the sentiment using black ink, and then cut it out. I punched a snowflake from white cardstock and applied a red rhinestone to the center of it.

I then took my heat gun to finish drying the spray mist. I used white acrylic paint and a snowflake stamp and stamped randomly over the painted layer. After heat setting it, I adhered the sentiment label using foam tape, and adhered the flare badge.

I stopped looking at my timer at the 13 minute 29 second mark, so I'm not exactly sure how long this card actually took to create, but I'm going to guess it was closer to 16 minutes... which still isn't that bad for a custom designed paper right? LOL

More Sept. CFK projects

I can't believe it's the last day of September. Between my son & I being sick, I just didn't get a chance to create much with my kit this month, but I did manage to squeak out another card and a few tags yesterday.

Although my kit did not have winter theme, I was able to make it work for these cute snowflake gift tags.

Winter Seasonal Thank You's

Yesterday I sat down to create a few wintery thank you cards. It just so happens that this week's CAS-ual Fridays Challenge is to create a thank you card.

This first card isn't exactly CAS, but I love how it turned out! The largest snowflake is made out of chipboard, and the small ones were punched out of cardstock using a Martha Stewart snowflake punch.

I painted all of them using Diamond Stickles and added some mini rhinestones to the centers. Then I added a little distress ink around the edges of the snowflakes, patterned paper, & card base.

I couldn't resist creating a gingerbread card :) I ♥ gingerbread men! I'm planning to create a bunch of paperclay gingerbread men ornaments for my Christmas tree next year.

The images was colored with colored pencils and blended with baby oil. Quick & easy!

My last card features and adorable penguin image from Red Rubber Designs, and the best thing about it is that it was only $1.00 :) Cuddly Penguin

2012 Christmas Card

When you make Christmas cards, do you create a different design for each recipient, or do you prefer mass producing? I tend to mass produce only because I'm always afraid I'll forget which design I gave someone, and I wouldn't want to give them the same card two years in a row! LOL

Sometimes doing assembly lined cards can get a little tedious for me but not this year! I loved, loved, loved creating these. I used an A2 sized kraft cardbase for the cards. I usually use patterned paper but lately I've been dabbling in art journaling and mixed media projects so I had some wet paint on my craft mat that I didn't want to waste so I used it to create a spattered background. Love how it turned out. The white color is from watered down white acrylic paint, and I used a dye re-inker from SU to make the red spatters. So fun! I'm definitely going to add more spatters to my projects in the future, I love the randomness of it :)

The reindeer image is a stamp I picked up from The Paper Source store. Isn't he cute? I stamped & embossed him & the sentiment using black ink & black embossing powder. Then I colored the reindeer using Copic markers and added some stickles to his little nose :)

I mailed out my Christmas cards today, well actually I missed the mail man so they'll go out tomorrow... on Dec. 1st! Last year I think I mailed them on the 21st :) It feels so good to not be rushing. So are you ready for Christmas?

Have you started your shopping yet? I haven't purchased or made a single thing yet. My Christmas cards are almost finished though :) This is one of my latest creations. I really LOVE this houndstooth pattern, I think it's probably going to be my "go-to" background stamp for awhile. 

Natural/wood colored buttons are another one of my new loves. I picked up a little packet of about 20 from Michael's $1 bin a few months ago. I'm kicking myself I should have gotten more. I added some black wire through the button holes and a little distress ink around the edges.  Then I used versamark ink to create a snowflake pattern on the card base. The focal snowflake was embossed using red glitter embossing powder. I also added some black dots around the snowflake using a black pen.

I ♥ Simple Stories 25 Days of Christmas

Especially the recently released 6x6 paper pads that are perfect for card making. I love that Simple Stories also included smaller versions of the tags that are included with the 12x12 sized collection.

25 Days of Christmas

For this card I only used patterned paper and cardstock... actually I did for all of the cards I'm sharing today. The patterns are so lovely I didn't really want to add anything else to it. 

This card features a strip of patterned paper and one of the mini tags propped up with foam tape.

I added some ink and edge distressing to create some texture for this card. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, the hoodstooth print :)

March of the Snowmen Blog Hop

 

I know that most of the country is probably fed up with all the snow we've been having, but most of the snow has narrowly missed my area. I really wanted to create a scrapbook layout show casing the snowman building skills of my son and I... which basically amounts to NONE! LOL But we haven't gotten enough snow for snowman building! Or snowball fights or sledding either! We did get quite a bit of ice last week which made sledding interesting & fun... and painful especially if you're not wearing gloves! LOL but we need snow!!! Just not too much... please & thank you!  :)

This is one of the two cards I created. That snowman is from an image card from Fancy Pants Design's Hot Chocolate collection. It was a little large for an A2 card so I had to crop it a little. I added some inking along the edges and paired it with a sentiment from PTI's Say it Style stamp set.  I rearranged my craft room a little and made room on my table for my sewing machine so I added some stitching. When I add stitching to my paper crafts I usually do it by hand. It's a little tricky with the machine because you have to adjust the stitch tension & stitch length to work well with different paper thicknesses, but I think once I figure that out I'll do better =)

Don't you just love that paper? It's another pattern from Fancy Pants' Hot Chocolate Collection I used some retired stamp sets from TAC to stamp the sentiment & snowflakes. Yes... I know that the patterned paper is new, but the stamps, ribbons, & rhinestones aren't, so this card still follows the DIO guidelines! LOL Oh and I used SU's retired Cranberry Crisp ink too! it works so well with the colors in this collection!

TGIF! This has been such a loooonnnnnggggg week! I have another snowman card to share with you today. Unfortunately it was really cloudy here today so the photo is a little dark but isn't he cute?

I just can't stay away from the red & brown color combo, especially with this image. The patterned paper I used isn't by Basic Grey... I know! I gasped myself :) It's actually by Fancy Pants Designs from their Hot Chocolate Collection The whole collection is super cute!

Snowman Love

I so love this image :) I wanted to use a non-traditional color scheme for this card. I can't seem to get away from the reds & greens when creating holiday cards. I almost made it though! LOL I pulled out some purple cardstock for the card base, colored the image using Sharpe & Copic markers. I also applied Glossy Affects to the holly berries. Thanks for looking!

Hi everyone! Tomorrow I'm promoting my Etsy shop, so I've been working like a mad woman to add inventory. Unfortunately I wasn't able to add much to my shop because I've been busy with some custom orders but I'll be adding more cards over the next couple of weeks. After Dec. 10th I will not be adding any more Christmas cards to my site but I will have some new Birthday & Thank you card designs.

Hiya! Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Have you started putting up your Christmas decorations yet? That's on my to do list for this week. Although we'll probably wait another week before buying a Christmas tree.  I LOVE Christmas :) All the colors & textures of this holiday makes me want to hide out in my craft room and craft ALL DAY :)

Another creation to share...

I know, two in one day? Crazy! But my PTI goodies arrived and my mojo is flowing so I figured I'd share another creation. CPS also has a great sketch this week that I wanted to use. 

Here's my take...

Digi Stamp Characters has some new snowman images that are absolutely adorable! And for $1.65 each, I couldn't pass them up! The sentiment is from PTI's newest Fillable Frames stamp set. I really love all of the sentiments in this set! It's the kind of stamp set you'll always be able to use no matter what becomes trendy. Thanks for looking!

I'm so ready to turn on the Christmas music :) DH isn't quite ready for it, but I could listen to Christmas music year round!

I'm working on Christmas cards and tags this week & adding inventory to my Etsy store. Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? I usually try to start early but I haven't purchased a single item this year. I'm hoping to create and/or purchase some handcrafted gifts,  shop online, and avoid the stores as much as possible... we'll see how that goes! LOL

Christmas Little Notes

 Hi all! It's been a super busy week here. Just wanted to share a Christmas little note I created. I used PTI Polka Dot Basic for the background, a sentiment from PTI's Mixed Messages stamp set, and a snowflake from a retired TAC stamp set. I added a strip of ribbon and a mini rhinestone to keep it simple. I'm loving PTI's Fresh Snow ink, it really POPS against the dark blue cardstock. 

Tomorrow's DIO Challenge is super fun! Especially if you are new to card making or if you are just looking for ideas on how to add a little something to your designs. 

Brr...

 

Morning all! It's another chilly day here today. Not quite snowman weather but I don't think anyone could resist these adorable snowmen! This is another print from the Be Merry collection by My Mind's Eye. I used my circle Nestabilities to create this card. The sentiment is from Purple Onion Designs, an awesome company with wonderful customer service! Unfortunately it looks like this sentiment set is no longer available for purchase. 

 

 

This card measures approximately 3.5 x 4 inches so it could be used as a gift tag or a little card. I really enjoyed making this card. I may create some other ones with a different theme and mount them to a square card base. 

I have a fun challenge planned for Friday's Dig it Out Challenge. There are no deadlines for these challenges. It's just a fun way to inspire you... and me to get crafty and create something. Dig it Out Friday: Patterned Paper

 

For today's challenge I'd like you to pull out some patterned paper that you've had in your stash for more than 6 months, and create something... anything! It can be a card, layout, altered item, anything goes! When you're finished please add a link to your creation using the Mr. Linky widget below. I'd love to see what you created! 

Here's mine... I really love the color combo on this patterned paper.  It's from My Mind's Eye Be Merry collection. I used a Spica glitter pen to accent the ornaments and garland on the trees. Thanks for looking! Can't wait to see what you've created!
