Cosmic Shimmer Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone! Today's card is a fun one! I used some Cosmic Shimmer Opal Blaze Polish to highlight the embossed spiderweb on the background of my card. I used a retired SU embossing folder to emboss the spider web pattern, and then used my finger to spread the Cosmic Shimmer over the raised areas on the panel. I was hoping for a more subtle application, but my little jar of Cosmic Shimmer was beginning to dry out so the consistency was a little hard & gloppy versus creamy.

 

The sentiment is a die cut that I cut using my Silhouette. It's a Kristen Magee Design called Happy Halloween Phrase Bat, it can be found in the Silhouette Design Store. I modified it a little and created an offset that I cut using the bright green cardstock. I popped it up using foam tape and adhered it to the white stitched label, which was adhered flat to the card base.

 

This shimmer polish is really interesting. The shade I used is called Gilded Avocado, it looks white & iridescent in the jar, but the color shifts when applied. The color of your substrate and the lighting can give it a completely different look! It looks like a bright yellow green color, but when you tilt the card in the lighting it looks more like a turquoise green.

Scrapbook.com has the Cosmic Shimmer Opal Polishes in a jar in several shades but not Gilded Avocado, you can check them out here... Cosmic Shimmer Opal Polishes. It looks like Gilded Avocado is available in what looks like a lip gloss tube, and comes with a doe foot applicator wand. It's on clearance at the moment so I wonder if it's being discontinued? Anyway if you can get your hands on some, it's a fun unique medium to try.

Delighfully Spooky

Sometimes when sit down to I create I have a specific vision for what my completed project will look like. When I was searching for the perfect blue ink for my pumpkin stencil papers I discovered that most of the blue inks in my stash have a purple tone. It wasn't what I wanted, but that Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink ended up being perfect shade for my card today.

I spent some time stamping coloring some images several weeks ago. I didn't have a specific project in mind for them but I knew that I wanted to incorporate them into some projects eventually. This witch image is from the Delightfully Spooky Dracula stamp set by Red Rubber Designs. I colored it using Copic Markers and some other alcohol ink markers that I have in my stash. The purples I used to color the image ended up pairing nicely with my "Chipped Sapphire pumpkin paper!"

 

 

I cut the pumpkin paper down to mat my A2 card, I adhered the witch to a stitched hexagon die cut, and then adhered a sentiment label below her using foam tape. The sentiment label was created by applying Lindy's Stamp Gang's Black Hole Black Magicals on black cardstock. I am in love with this shade, it's THE perfect black for me, it has a beautiful black shimmer to it that isn't overwhelming. It looks a little chalky here, it's difficult to capture the shimmer. After it dried I stamped the sentiment using a clear embossing ink and heat embossed it using Ranger Ink White Super Fine Embossing Powder. I then adhered the hexagon directly to the card base. I added a few bat die cuts from black cardstock that I also painted with the Black Hole Black Magicals.

Fall Shades of Blue

I tend to reach for shades of orange and brown for my Fall projects but shades of blue and teal seem to be on trend this Fall season and I am here for it! I loved the pumpkin stenciled background that I created for this card so I decided to use it again to create some backgrounds using trendy shades of blue. This little exercise made me realize I don't have any medium or medium/dark true blue shades. Most of my blues appear to be more purple so I ended up choosing the shades of ink closest to what I envisioned.

I used Neenah Solar White cardstock for all these panels. I chose Stampin' Up's Night of Navy, Pacific Point, and Distress Chipped Sapphire & Speckled Egg on this first set. I never noticed how purple Chipped Sapphire leans before now.

I used Stampin' Up's Pretty Peacock, Distress Peacock Feathers, and Stampin' Up's Soft Succulent on these panels. Surprisingly Soft Succulent has really become a favorite ink! If you have Papertrey Ink's Oceantides ink pad it's a near perfect match. I think it's a teeny weeny tiny bit deeper in tone but It's hardly noticeable. Anyway I love how easy it is to transform a sheet of white paper with a few basic supplies. I can't wait to put these DIY patterned papers to use!

WCMD Card Kit inspiration

I'm back today to share a card that I created using the stencil and some other supplies in the kit. I wanted to offer a jar of Perfect Pearls with the kit but I wasn't able to find it sold individually so I substituted it with Lindy's Bayou Boogie Gold Magicals and it's THE PERFECT alternative! Although I think the Perfect Pearls might be slightly more vibrant. I mixed a small amount of water with the pigment to create a paste and then splattered it over the stenciled pattern and I'm in LOVE! That little touch of gold is perfect!

I blended a heavy application of Stampin' up' Cajun Craze over the stencil on a sheet of Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. I then removed the stencil and applied the same ink with a much lighter hand over the entire surface of the cardstock. I used a scalloped edge rectangle die to cut down the panel, and adhered several layers of cardstock to the back in place of foam tape to give it a little dimension. I often use cardstock instead of foam tape because foam tape is sometimes too thick for the look that I'm going for. I know that there are some thinner foam tapes on the market but using cardstock is often more convenient for me.

I used the sheer orange ribbon included in the kit to create a bow, and wrapped it around the panel. I adhered a panel of Cajun Craze cardstock that I embossed using SU's Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder to the card front. I then adhered the stenciled background panel at an angle on to the card front. The sentiment was stamped on vellum, heat embossed using gold embossing powder, and adhered to a white oval die cut. I framed the sentiment using Cajun Craze cardstock. I think this is my favorite burnt orange! I adhered the sentiment to the card front, threaded a button using Scrappers Floss and adhered it to the center of the bow.

Stampin' Up's No Matter The Weather Kit - Part 2

I promised to share some of the other cards that I created using Stampin' Up's No Matter The Weather kit. This first card features one of the sentiments from the stamp set included in the kit. The striped green panel was cut from one of the envelopes in the kit. The peachy patterned paper is from a retired patterned paper collection from SU. The flower diecut is from a previous Paper Pumpkin kit.

These next two cards feature the sweet little rabbit die cut included in the kit.

The rain boot images are so cute but I love these rainbow ones lined up in a row! I added some Stickles to the little heart and adhered it to the sentiment strip using foam tape, and then adhered the sentiment strip to the card base using foam tape. 

This was a fun kit to play with! In my opinion, the Paper Pumpkin kit's are perfect for new card makers, crafter's who want to build up their ink and stamp stash slowly at a lower price point, or crafter's who want to create projects that are already planned out.

If you are a seasoned crafter with a nice stash of stamps and ink you may not find as much value in the kits. The one major benefit of the Paper Pumpkin kits is that the stamps and some of the embellishments offered are exclusive to the kit... however SU recently offered some of the past kits as a part of their regular catalog offerings, so that's something to consider. Pearfect Pearls and Fall Leaves

Happy World Card Making Day everyone! These last couple of weeks I spent digging through my stash to see what I could use for my fall and winter makes this season. I found some things that I had forgotten about and got to work on some fall themed projects. One of which is this card featuring fall leaves and Perfect Copper Perfect Pearls.

 

I've had a set of Perfect Pearls in my stash for a long time but I have to admit that initially I was not a fan. When I first used them I found the product to be messy, I just couldn't get them to set! I started thinking about how I use Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals and wondered if they are basically the same type of product. I'm not sure they are, but the consistency of the powders are similar so it made me wonder if I could apply the Perfect Pearls like a watercolor paint instead.

 

So I mixed the powder with water in a watercolor paint palette and splattered the pigment over my card front! The paint dried without smudging and the shimmer and shine did not become diluted. Unfortunately I am not a skilled photographer so it was a bit of a challenge to capture just how pretty the shimmer is.If you click on the photos to you can see the details a little easier. The leaves are from a Red Rubber Designs stamp set called Every Leaf. I colored them using Polychromos colored pencils. The sentiment is from another Red Rubber Designs stamp set called Joyful Notes.

 

 

I used an edge distresser tool to distress the edges of my stamped panel and then used a blending brush to apply some Vintage Photo Distress ink on the card front and along the edges.
