Versamark Ink & Chalk

Hi all! It looks like Typepad is back up and running. I have been trying to update my blog, but they had some issues on their end... which served as a great reminder for me to back up my blog... something I have never done. I started the painstaking task of backing up 500+ blog entries which has been a daunting task. Slowly but surely I'll get to each one.

Now that things are back up and running I have a few cards to share with you today! I combined a beautiful floral image from Red Rubber Designs' Nothing is Better stamp set with some fabulous sentiments from Red Rubber Designs and Winnie & Walter to create two cards. 

 

I stamped the flowers using Versamark ink and then pounced some Pebbles Inc. chalk over them. I LOVE how this turned out. I've used chalk before using a direct to cardstock technique without applying a medium. It offers a very subtle look especially when using lighter shades, but when you combine Versamark ink & rubber stamps WOW! It really creates a beautiful look. The sentiment on this card is from Red Rubber Designs' Sophisticated Sentiments stamp set.

I used my marker spritzer to tie in the black ink from the sentiments. I got a little heavy handed on this first card, but after using the spritzer a few times it gets easier to learn how to control the splatters a little more.

It's still a random process, but you can achieve different looks depending on how close your spritzer is to your paper, how many spritzes you apply, and also how wet your marker is. 

The sentiments on this second card are from Winne & Walter's The Big, the Bold, & the Happy stamp set. 

I added some pearls to this card, and allowed the floral background and bold sentiment to take take center stage on this card.

Hello Bunny

I wasn't ready to put away my bunny images just yet, so I have one more card to share with you today. The layout for this card was inspired by this sketch for this week's sketch challenge over at the C.R.A.F.T Challenge blog. This square sized card measures 4.25.4.25 inches.

  

I used another image from Pickled Potpourri's Flopsy Bunny digital stamp set, along with a sentiment from the Hello Baby digital stamp set. I colored the image using Copic markers, and used some patterned paper from Red Rubber Designs' Catelyn patterned paper collection. I also used my marker spritzer again for this image. I adhered some iridescent mini sequins to the top left corner. Love that small size!

Easter Bunny

Happy Easter! I hope that you all are enjoying this day!

I wanted to pop in to share an Easter card that I created. I used an adorable bunny image from Pickled Potpourri Designs' set called Flopsy Bunny.

I also used a new toy! My Ranger Marker Spritzer. Years ago when SU first introduced the marker spritzer to their catty I wanted one, but for some reason I never ordered it. I contemplated purchasing it when they announced that it would be retired but I didn't. I don't know why the heck I waited so long! LOL This tool is so cool! I was able to find it at Joann's and used a 40% off coupon so it ended up costing $9 and some change. 

The nice thing about this tool is that it gave me a chance to use another product I've had in my stash for more than 6 years... my Tombow markers. They were the very first set of markers I purchased specifically for this hobby... and they are still moist! I really expected them to be dried out, but they worked perfectly for this misting technique. 

I colored the bunny image using Copic & Pro Markers and used a Tombow marker to mist yellow ink around the bunny. I matted the image using some patterned paper, and used foam tape to adhere it to the card base. Before doing that, I cut a stencil using printer paper & my Silhouette and used a pink Tombow marker to create the background of the card base. 

I couldn't find a sentiment small enough for this card so I created one using Microsoft Word, and punched it out using a paper punch. I wish I could tell you the name of the font that I used but the hardware on my laptop died and I didn't write down that info. If you recognize the font please leave me a message or e-mail me. Red Rubber Inspirational #16: Back to Nature

Hi Everyone! Hope you're having a great weekend so far!

 

Did you get a chance to check out the new Red Rubber Inspirational for this week? This week's challenge is all about nature! I created a card using a pretty moth image... I can't believe I used pretty and moth in the same sentence. Moths give me the creeps! LOL but this image really is beautiful! 

I stamped the moth image on a tag using Palette Burnt Umber ink, added some distress ink around the edges of the tag & card base before adhering the patterned paper. I adhered the tag to the card front using foam tape. 

I tucked a small tag stamped with the "Thanks" sentiment behind the image tag. and added a button to complete the card. Don't forget to check out the other entries for this week's challenge.

Red Rubber Inspirational #15: Masculine Birthday Cards

Hi everyone!

This week's challenge is a great one! 

It's all about creating masculine birthday cards! 

 

 

When creating masculine cards my brain automatically thinks of sports or outdoorsy types of activities. Those themes are great but sometimes I need a masculine card for someone who might not be a sports or outdoors enthusiast, so I try to stick to two simple rules when creating masculine cards... 

 Keep embellishments to a minimum.

Work with a great pattern & color palette.

 

The card I created features a candle image that is gender neutral. The nice thing about using gender neutral images is that you can use color and pattern to set the tone for your project. 

 

I used some very basic supplies... black, grey, & white cardstock, white acrylic paint applied with a make-up sponge (you could you also use a white ink pad), one image stamp, one sentiment stamp, black ink, a die, foam tape, and a few enamel dots.

The image and sentiment I used is from a Red Rubber Designs set called Little Cupcake, unfortunately it's no longer available. Some stamps that are availble in the Red Rubber Designs Store that would make a good substitution would be the cupcake from the Little Darlins set, Background Soup, Harlequin Background, and Tiger Face just to name a few of my faves :)  

The nice thing about this card and paint stamping technique is that I can easily swap out the image and sentiment and create a masculine card for any occasion!

I just made it!

The current Red Rubber Inspirational challenge will be over in just a couple of hours... but no worries a new one will be posted so you can play along too!

The challenge is to create something with a vintage feel... I don't really know how to do vintage, but this is my attempt.

I used some Copic markers to color the butterfly, inked around it using distress ink. I flicked a bit of water on the image and then inked the edges with a darker shade of distress ink.

I stamped the sentiment on a strip of paper, inked around the edges and adhered it over the butterfly. I layered patterned paper from the Angelee patterned paper collection, added some lacy ribbon, faux stitching, a floral embellishment, and a button to finish this card.
