Kill that Kit

Good Morning! I have two final Counterfeit Kit cards to share to share with you all. I had a great time creating with the CFK Crew this month.

My first project is a CAS card I created using the yellow patterned paper and a few labels from my kit. I used a die & white cardstock to create the little flower and added a mini rhinestone to the center.

I used a chipboard square piece from my kit on my next card. I've had this packet of chipboard pieces in my stash FOREVER. 

I added some white puffy paint to the marshmallows on this image. Love how it turned out! The marshmallows are so small so the result isn't perfect, but I like it anyway. After it dries, its texture is a cross between colored glossy accents and an enamel dot. Slightly raised & glazed is a good way to describe it.

 

The trick to using puffy paint on paper is to apply it carefully & in layers. I squeezed a little bit on the center of each marshmallow, and carefully flicked the underside of the cardstock with my fingers, which allowed it to settle down and spread a little more. If your paint doesn't spread far enough width wise, add a little more paint to the center of your image and flick the underside of the cardstock again.

Sweet Boy

This is the last layout I created with my October Counterfeit Kit. 

You can click on the images to enlarge the view. This layout features another photo from my pre-digital camera days. Tim is sitting on his buddy Wally, who is still with us 12yrs later. He still sleeps in Tim's room.

I used a Tim Holtz stencil & Distress Paint to add some texture to the background. I really like the distress paint, it has a great consistency, and I like the fact that it reacts with water. Fun stuff!

I have a few more Counterfeit Kit projects to share with you all today.

This blue floral patterned paper really stumped me. I really wanted to use it on a scrapbook layout, but I didn't have any recent photos that would work well with it. I started digging through some photos that I took in early 2000, before I purchased my digital camera, and came across some pictures of my son when he was baby.

I think these photos might have been taken with a disposable camera because they are so blurry. I decided to use them anyway because they have a story to tell, and that drooly smile is definitely scrap worthy! :) The shirt he's wearing is similar in color to the patterned paper so I decided to use them. I managed to add a tiny sliver of that patterned paper! LOL I cut out a few of the flowers, added mini brad to the centers, popped them up on foam tape, and adhered them at the top of the layout.

I used a stamp & Versamark ink to add some texture to the cardstock background. I also fed a thin strip of blue cardstock through my paper crimper and layered that between the two patterned paper prints.

I decided to create a card using a portion of the patterned paper while I had it out.

I keep reaching for that sentiment... I really like the font, and it's one of the stamps in this set that stamps relatively well without any doctoring! LOL

10-Minute Craft Dash #28

 

There's only a few hours left to submit your entry for the current 10-Minute Craft Dash Challenge.  I created my card several days ago but went over my time by more than 3 minutes. I planned to try again but the time just got away from me this week.

I wanted to share my card anyway, even though it was a 10 minute fail. I really love how it turned out. I was pretty ambitious when I started this card, I should have known that adding the acrylic paints would eat up my time. They actually dried really quickly, I think I just had so much going on with this card, that everything together was a little much for 10 minutes.

To create this card I stared with a standard white A2 card base. I cut a piece of Mixed Media paper slightly smaller at 5.25in. X 4in. to layer on top of the card base. A heavy weight cardstock would probably work just as well, but I knew that I would be using acrylic paint & spray mist ink and I didn't want my paper to warp too much. The mixed media paper is much more tolerant of layers of liquid mediums.

I applied a thin layer of turquoise acrylic paint, used my heat gun to dry it quickly, and then applied green acrylic paint using a sponge & circle stencil. I dried that and then added splatters of red spray mist ink. I set that aside and then stamped the label image using red ink, stamped the sentiment using black ink, and then cut it out. I punched a snowflake from white cardstock and applied a red rhinestone to the center of it.

I then took my heat gun to finish drying the spray mist. I used white acrylic paint and a snowflake stamp and stamped randomly over the painted layer. After heat setting it, I adhered the sentiment label using foam tape, and adhered the flare badge.

I stopped looking at my timer at the 13 minute 29 second mark, so I'm not exactly sure how long this card actually took to create, but I'm going to guess it was closer to 16 minutes... which still isn't that bad for a custom designed paper right? LOL

Another CFK card

It's October 22nd... already! This month is just breezing by! I'm still working with my Counterfeit Kit and I have a card to share with you today.

This image is particularly fitting here in Maryland this morning, it's chilly! I love this time of year, the humidity is gone, the leaves on the trees are changing colors, and it's not freezing yet, so I'm enjoying it!

I discovered that the images in this stamp set, stamps a much cleaner image with Versamagic Chalk ink compared to dye ink. So I'm slowly leaning towards to love part of the love/hate relationship that I have with this stamp set! LOL To add a little more texture to this card, I stamped the cocoa cup images using Versamark Ink and one of the images from a stamp set called So Splattered by Red Rubber Designs. It's a great set to use if you need to add a little extra texture to your project.

CFK Challenge #3 Grid Designs

Are you ready for another Counterfeit Kit Challenge?

Today's challenge is to create a project using a grid design. You can incorporate the "grid" using elements, photos, or the paper on your project.

Don't laugh... but I literally sat over four hours staring at these photos trying to figure out how I wanted to arrange them. They were 4x6 prints, but after trimming them down some I worked out a layout that I am happy with.

Wegman's opened a new store in my community. I love Wegman's. We have 3-4 other grocery stores in close proximity but I hate their produce. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to produce. Living in San Diego will do that to you. It's not uncommon for me to drive 25+ miles to get fresh produce.

I know it sounds crazy but I love my fresh fruits & veggies :) Now that Wegman's is only a 5 minute drive I'll have more options for fresh seasonal produce. Not only that, they have the BEST gluten free section of all of the grocery stores within 25+ miles from my home. Granted a lot of the offerings are junk foods, but it's great to have options.

Anyway, once I figured out how I wanted to place my photos, I matted them using white cardstock, adhered them to kraft cardstock, and then adhered them to the blue cardstock base using foam tape. I added a few embellishments and some alpha stickers. I've had those alpha stickers in my stash for at least two years, it felt good to finally use them.

I also rediscovered my Making Memories Magnetic Date Stamp set... remember those? I forgot how much I love it. It's another $10 goody I've had in my stash for a good 8+ years.

10-Minute Craft Dash #27

Well I didn't get my card completed in time for the 10 Minute Craft Dash but I wanted to share it anyway. I forgot to photograph my timer, but it took me 9 minutes & 37 seconds... cutting it close again! LOL

I spent a lot of time stamping the single polka dot triangle using the three different inks, and then trying to line them up. The triangles are from Mama Elephant's Trifecta stamp set.

After stamping the background, I matted it on orange cardstock, stamped the sentiment on a white cardstock strip, and popped it up using foam tape. I then added a few sequins to embellish the card.

I loved this card so much I created another one using a similar design in a different color scheme, using contents from my Counterfeit Kit.

CFK Birthday Party Challenge

I love those rainbow colors!

I decided to work with the dominant colors in my kit this month...  kraft, pink, light blue, dark blue, & white. This layout showcases photos of Virginia Beach, Virginia, one of my absolute favorite places to be!

 My next project is a card, inspired by the heart place cards in the photo.

I die cut hearts from kraft, pink, & blue cardstock and adhered them to a white cardstock panel.

I then added some mini sequins and popped up the heart panel using foam tape, and then adhered it to the blue cardstock base.

Three Cuties

This is a photo of my niece and nephew & their friend when they were little. The are all teenagers now. I still don't know how that happened! LOL 

I pulled contents from my Counterfeit Kit to create this layout. I used a  stamp set called Keyboard Uppercase by Close to My Heart to stamp out "three" using Ranger Archival Jet Black Ink. Can I just tell you how much I LOVE this stamp set? I've always been a fan of alphabet stamps, but I'll be honest, they do require a little work to line them up. This stamp set makes creating alphabet stickers so easy, which is how I used them here.

After I stamped each letter, I cut them out. I could have run them through my Xyron sticker machine, but it was just easier for me to use a Zig glue pen. It literally took me less than 2 minutes.

I could have also just stamped directly onto the cardstock because the "block" style lettering makes it easy to line up each letter compared to a traditional alphabet stamp. Do you use alphabet stamps on layouts or cards? Or do you prefer alphabet stickers or die cuts?

I wanted to use black sequins for this layout but I don't have any in my stash, so I used a black Copic marker to color some of the pink ones. I wasn't sure how they would look after they dried but they are perfect! No streaks with solid coloring, and it only took them a few minutes to dry.

Happy World Card Making Day!

Did you get a chance to make any cards today? I stayed up late last night scrappin' and making cards. I'm trying to clean house today. It's going slow... very slowly! Haha, I keep thinking of card ideas. I think I'm going to throw in the towel and go make a few more cards.

This is one of the cards I made. I really like how this one turned out... "Halloweeny," trendy, but not too scary or cutesy :) I used images from My Mind's Eye's Happy Haunting Halloween stamp set.

CFK Challenge #1 Inspired by Jewelry

Hi All! I have a card to share that I created for Counterfeit Kit Club's first challenge for the month of October.

CFK Challenge #1: Inspired by Jewelry 

The challenge is to use a piece of YOUR jewelry for inspiration!  Tell it's story...use it's design...and make sure to show us a photo of your inspiration, too.

This was certainly a challenge for me. The only jewelry I wear on a regular basis is a pair of gold hoop earrings and my wedding rings. I decided to play off the gold color & ring shape of my jewelry and created an anniversary card.

Unfortunately I'm not the greatest photographer and had a terrible time capturing the true colors, but trust me when I say this card looks so much better in person :)

I took a piece of white cardstock, adhered Mod Podge to it and then sprinkled on some gold glitter. I set it aside to dry and then added another layer of Mod Podge to seal the glitter onto the cardstock. After it dried, I cut rings from it using Nestability circle dies. I then adhered the rings to the cardstock base, and added some mini rhinestones to mimic the diamonds in my wedding band. The sentiment was stamped using black archival ink.

How've you bean?

I sat down to create a card today using my Counterfeit Kit. I've had this coffee stamp set for awhile. I'll be honest, I haven't used it because it doesn't really stamp well. I remember creating a card using another image from this set, and it took a million tries to stamp an image that wasn't blotchy. I decided to try priming it to see if I could get a better stamped image from it. 

To prime it, I used a sanding block to gently rub over the stamp and that helped tremendously! It stamps pretty good now, I'm looking forward to actually creating with it! Here's a close up of the steam, I colored it using a clear Wink of Stella Glitter brush marker. LOVE it!

Counterfeit Kit October Guest Designer

 

 

Hi Everyone!

I'm so honored to be a guest designer for Counterfeit kit Club for the month of October. This month we're counterfeiting the September kits from Cocoa Daisy kit club. There are several kits to choose from and it was hard to narrow down a choice, but I decided to counterfeit the "5th & Main" Kit.

The first thing I do when assembling my counterfeit kits is check to see if I have any specific kit contents in my stash that are included in the kit and add those first. If I don't have any, I begin with the patterned paper choices and build around them. I'll usually choose patterned papers that are in the same color family first, and then select papers that also have a similar pattern.

Then I choose cardstock that coordinates with the patterned papers. I try to choose embellishments that are similar to those in the kit, and if I don't have anything similar I'll choose embellishments that coordinate well with the patterned papers. For this particular kit I knew that I would want more embellishments so I added some extras.

So here's my kit. I don't normally use stickers other than alphabet stickers so I didn't have anything that would work to replace the sticker sheet. I may create additional DIY labels with text and/or images instead of stickers. I was really surprised that I did not have any dark blue alphabet stickers in my stash. I use blue a lot so maybe that's why. I pulled out my Quickutz Chicago dies & some extra cardstock to create some alphabet die cuts to use instead of the stickers. I have several types of label stickers in my stash but none that coordinate well with the patterned papers I choose so I used some label stamps & ink to create some.

I may add some additional ink, color mediums, stamps, stencils, and/or dies to create die cuts using the cardstock & patterned paper already included in my kit if I need it. This is what I'll be working with this month. Please check out the kits the kits the design team has assembled...
